How to look after Freesia Single White in the UK

Position & Light:
Grow in full sun in a warm, sheltered position, or in pots in a cool greenhouse, conservatory or bright windowsill. Freesias are intensely fragrant, elegant cut flowers with arching stems of white blooms. They are frost tender, so they suit pots on a sunny patio in summer, moved under cover before the first frosts. They are valuable cut flowers for the house.

Soil & Watering:
Plant in very well-drained, fertile soil or in pots of good, gritty compost. Water regularly while in active growth and flowering, keeping the compost evenly moist but never waterlogged. Reduce watering once the foliage begins to die back.

Feeding:
Feed with a high-potash liquid fertiliser, such as tomato feed, every two weeks while in growth and flowering. Stop feeding when the foliage begins to yellow.

Pruning & Maintenance:
Support the slender stems with small canes or twiggy sticks, as they are fragile and can flop. Cut flowers for the vase as the first buds open, which encourages more flowers. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering, as this feeds the corm for next year. Protect from frost, as freesias are frost tender. Keep pots in a cool, bright place in winter, and keep fairly dry when dormant.

Common Problems:
- Floppy stems: Caused by low light or lack of support. Provide support and plenty of sun.
- Frost damage: Frost tender. Bring pots under cover before the first frosts.
- Few flowers: Too little light or lack of potash. Give full sun and use a high-potash feed.
- Rotting: Caused by overwatering. Improve drainage and water carefully.
- Aphids: Can colonise new growth, particularly under cover. Rinse off or encourage predators.

Supplied bare root, carefully packed with a moisture source to ensure freshness. Plant height: approximately 10cm.
Please remember that most plants (except Evergreens) are dormant in Autumn/Winter so your order may have no leaves until Spring.

🪴 What Does Bare Root Mean?

It's less messy, reduces waste, and allows the plant to settle into your garden more easily once planted.
